First, think of all the luxury spaces you can. A high-end lounge, an art museum, an upscale theatre, an exclusive club, a 5-star restaurant or hotel, a high-tier office, and premium homes. What’s one thing they all have in common? It’s wood panelling.
Luxury spaces incorporate wood panelling because wood looks and feels good to us on tangible and intangible levels. We’ve been building with it forever. In fact, people that don’t incorporate wood into their homes eventually come to realise how much they miss it. They note what a big difference it makes in the look and feel of the home. Since wood feels warm and inviting, a home just feels more comfortable. Homes with acoustic wood panelling even sound better.
Interior designers know how important all of this is. So they create warm and rich-feeling spaces using wood panelling’s huge range of colours, patterns, and textures. You can recreate these looks too, blending wood panelling into your own home using the same principles.
For instance, consider the purpose and atmosphere of a room. Is it to be vibrant and lively, like a living room, playroom, kitchen, sun room, children’s bedroom, music room, or home gym? Choose lighter, natural wood panelling made with maple, ash, birch, or white oak. Similarly, make an impression in media rooms, dens, living rooms, game rooms and guest rooms with medium- coloured woods like garden walnut and beech. Darker woods like rich mahogany and black walnut make home offices, dens, and home theatres look and feel elegant and lavish.
Interior designers also keep in mind that wood panelling doesn’t have to cover every square inch if cost is an issue. Just one wall, or the lower half of a wall even (wainscoting), is enough to make a room feel decadent. Hence, the look and feel of luxury is easily achievable for those on a budget too.
